| Patriot Lacrosse Registration for Youth Outdoor Spring Lacrosse League (Feb10-June10) |
Patriot Youth Lacrosse Spring '10 Registration Policies
The registration deadline for Spring play is January 31, 2010 with a payment deadline of February 15, 2010. We ask everyone to sign up your player as early as possible as it helps us determine the number of teams we will be fielding at each level and thus how much turf we need for practices and games.
The Patriot club will endeavor to have all registrants for the Spring 2010 season play on a team. We will be limiting the number of players on any particular team to 20 or less in order to assure the best player development, team experience and playing opportunities. The implications of this are:
- At some grade levels we will be fielding multiple teams
- In some cases a registrant may not actually be able to get on a team
- Returning Spring 2009 players who register by December 15, 2009 are guaranteed a spot on a Spring 2010 team
- Registrants that are not placed on a team due to oversubscription will be placed on a waiting list in order of registration
When multiple teams exist for a grade level, the teams may well have different expectations as to competitiveness, practice time requirements, etc. We will fill "Red" teams at the 7th and 8th grade levels with the strongest players and have those teams complete at the highest levels reasonable. If needed, there will be organized tryouts at the 7th and 8th grade levels to determine the "Red" team rosters. All other teams will play at the "White" or "Blue" levels. Expectations of Red, White, and Blue teams are described below.
When a given grade level has insufficient players to completely fill a given team, we may try to combine grade levels to fill a roster, and create teams which will typically compete at the grade level of the highest grade level represented in the group, but at a lower competitive level. Yet, there may still be situations where this cannot be done due to league rules or because it would create an injudicious mismatch of player ages and sizes. Ultimately this implies that there is a chance a registrant may not be placed on a team.
In cases where registrants will not get onto a team and there aren't planned tryouts, priority will be given first to returning spring '09 players (but those returning players must register by Friday December 15th, 2010 to secure a slot). When a team is being selected via tryout, that tryout will determine team membership.
Expected Teams for Boys by Age Group:
The expected specific competitive situation at each grade level is briefly described below. Registrants will be asked for their competitive preference during the sign-up process.
- 8th Grade Boys: A competitive Red Team will be selected via tryouts. A second 8th grade team will also likely be fielded at the White division, as plenty of applicants are expected. If more than two teams of 8th graders register, the additional registrants will play on a mixed grade team, of one is fielded.
- 7th Grade Boys: Likely a single team will be formed from the registrants and will play in the Red division, with a strong possibility of fielding a second team. If enough players register to field a second team, the coaches will select the two teams in one of the following manners: a competitive Red team will be selected via tryouts or by coach selection and a second White/Blue team will be fielded. If only one 7th grade team registers, a Red team will be fielded, and additional registrants will play on a mixed grade team, if one is fielded. If more than two teams of 7th graders register, the additional registrants will play on a mixed grade level team, if one is fielded.
- 6th Grade Boys: Likely two teams will be formed from registrants. If enough players register to field a second team the coaches will select the two teams in one of the following manners: a White team and Blue team will be selected by either tryouts or coach selection. If more than two teams of 6th graders register, the additional registrants will play on a mixed grade level team, if one is fielded.
- 5th Grade Boys: Likely a single team will be formed from registrants. If more than one team full of 5th graders register, the additional registrants will play on a mixed grade team, if one is fielded.
- 4th Grade Boys: Likely a single team will be formed from registrants. If more than one team full of 4th graders register, the additional registrants will play on a mixed grade team, if one is fielded.
- 2-3rd Grade: Likely a single team will be formed from registrants and play at 3rd grade level. If more than one team full of 2nd and 3rd graders register, the additional registrants will play on a mixed grade team, if one is fielded.
Team Level Expectations:
"Red" Level Team:
- Team is limited to < 20 players. Tryouts will be held in February or March if needed.
- Players commit to all CYLA games and post season tournaments (the Colorado Jamboree is scheduled for the first week in June and other tournaments are often played); unusual circumstances should be disclosed and discussed with coaches in advance.
- Players commit to three practices per week (actual number practices/week may vary by coach and grade level rules). Missing one practice a week for another athletic or academic commitment is an acceptable exception, but must be communicated. Missing practice due to illness or major family issues is also understood.
- Players are expected to behave with respect for all teammates and respect the decisions of and pay attention to the coaches at all times.
- Players are encouraged to exercise and develop skills on their own in addition to practice times.
- Players must maintain their family's academic standards. Players are asked to ensure that they use their time wisely and get homework done so as not to conflict with practice and game commitments.
- All players will be given the opportunity to play; game situations may dictate the amount of playing time for each player. Coaches are directed to be as fair as possible but have leeway in any given game situation.
- Players will have a lot of fun!
"White" & "Blue" Level Team:
- Team is limited to <= 20 players.
- Players commit to the majority of all CYLA games following spring break (the Colorado Jamboree is scheduled for early June.
- Players commit to two practices a week (actual number practices/week may vary by coach and grade level rules). Missing up to one practice a week for another athletic or academic commitment is acceptable, but must be communicated. Missing practice due to illness or major family issues is also understood.
- Players are expected to behave with respect for all teammates and respect the decisions of and pay attention to the coaches at all times.
- Players will be encouraged to exercise on their own in addition to practice times. Players are expected to practice lacrosse skills outside of organized practice time.
- All players must maintain their family's academic standards. Players will be asked to ensure that they use their time wisely and get homework done so as not to conflict with practice and game commitments.
- Players will be playing in a 'developmental' environment and competitive level. It is every team's intention and goal to make like-position playing time substantially similar.
- Players will have a lot of fun!
Uniform Policy for Boys
A complete spring uniform is required to participate with Patriot for the Spring 2010 season. A complete uniform consists of game jersey, game shorts, and a practice pinnie. New spring players will be required to purchase a complete spring uniform. Players that have previously participated in the fall or indoor season but not in the spring 2009 season will not have a complete spring uniform.
Returning spring players can use their 2009 uniform or optionally purchase a new spring uniform. If you plan to use the 2010 uniform please check sizes and confirm you can still find the uniform at registration time.
There will be an opportunity to check uniform sizes at the Patriot information night in January, 2010. Uniforms will be ordered in late January, 2010 so your son's registration information can be updated.
Expected Teams for Girls by Age Group:
We look forward to building our teams this year with new and returning players. Patriot girls lacrosse is open to girls in 3rd through 8th grade.
The mission of the Patriot Youth Girls Lacrosse is to:
- Increase participation in the game of lacrosse by providing a safe and enjoyable learning environment for young women to play.
- Promote girls youth lacrosse in an environment that emphasizes fun while developing skills, teamwork, good sportsmanship and integrity.
Our goal this year is to have the following age groups for the Patriot girls teams:
- 8th grade team
- 7th grade team
- 6th grade team
- 3-5th grade combined team
If there are not enough registrants to fill particular grade level teams, there is the possibility of creating combined teams, such as 7/8 grade and 5/6 grade teams. Fourth (4th) grade girls will have the option of playing on the 5/6 grade team.
We may need volunteer coaches. You do not need lacrosse experience to coach. I have several college and high school girl lacrosse players that are willing to assist with coaching. It works well to have at least two parent coaches per team. There is also a coaching clinic that all new coaches must take on-line or in Denver in January, 2010.

US Lacrosse Membership for Boys and Girls:
All players in Patriot are required to have a US Lacrosse membership that is active through June, 2010. Patriot registrants can activate and check the status of US Lacrosse memberships here. Spring 2010 registrants will be required to obtain an active US Lacrosse membership by February 15, 2010.
